Five years ago I boarded a plane to head to the first ever Orange Conference. Before then it had been called the "Grow Up" Conference held by NorthPoint Ministries. Since then, Reggie Joiner has created an organization called the ReThink Group which produces the Orange Conference.
About five years ago a Children's Ministry team I had been on tried to implement a new strategy and new curriculum to a church I had attended. It didn't pan out how we had expected. We and I know I have learned a lot from that experience.
Now years later and I find myself leading a Children's Ministry at New Life Fellowship (Queens, NYC) with an amazing staff and volunteer team and I am STILL learning TONS. I don't think I'll ever stop learning! :) Our church is passionate about partnering with parents to impact the next generation. And going to the Orange Conference helps fuel that passion in us.
My prayer for our teams time at this Conference is that we would grow closer to one another, make connections with other children's ministry folks from around the country and around the world, and that we would come home refreshed, recharged and challenged to stretch and grow more.
Volunteers:
Some of you were interested in coming, but couldn't. Next year we'll go bigger with our fund raiser to get more folks to the conference. In the meantime I encourage you to follow along the conference and gleam as much as you can online. Here are some ways you can do that:
- They will be streaming the opening session, a Family Experience event, backstage interviews with main speakers and more. This will start Wednesday night 7:30pm to Friday afternoon. Tune in any chance you get: bit.ly/iiy4Sm
- I will be tweeting some good quotes and info under @rosievillodas and @newlifekidsnyc. If you aren't' on twitter.... get on it quick! ;)
- Or you could follow Orange Leaders on Twitter @orangeleaders.
- Check our New Life Kids Facebook page for quotes and pictures as well. www.facebook.com/NewLifeKids
- There will be some "Orange Bloggers" writing all kinds of great stuff. Check out their blogs: http://www.whatisorange.org/orangeleaders/blog/?p=7105
- Finally, I'll be trying my best to blog some of my experiences and learning's on this blog. :)
